This idea came from wearing a gold sticker all day at my daughters request which said "You are a star!".

I gave up on the number of people who asked me what the sticker was for.

So you could have a "You're a star!" sticker for sponsoring a child. Ask supporters to wear it on one specified day and give them some postcards to hand out to anyone who asks (so in this case - "I sponsor a child through ActionAid here is some information"). You could even code the postcards to link back to the original supporter.
