30 Facebook

As well as getting in touch with people, Facebook also seems to be about who has got the best site, the most stuff, the most friends etc.

Do you know if you have supporters with pages on Facebook? They can show what causes they support if they want to – or are encouraged to by you.

So, as our friend Polly suggested, say she puts ActionAid on her page, surely there would be a way that ActionAid can then see all the people like her who support them.

“Then they check their records, see I sponsor a child in Cambodia and every now and then get the office in Cambodia to send me a photo and an email just saying ‘Hello Polly, just wishing you a happy Friday from all of us here in Phnom Penh’.

Lots of charities could do this, for example, a Facebook message from the events team saying ‘this time a year ago you were training for the London Marathon – we just wanted to drop you an email to say thank you once again – you are great!’

We think charities are missing a trick here.
